Virgin Money Cyclone Sportive

A few club members rode the Virgin Cyclone Sportive today. The HQ for this popular sportive is at Gosforth, Newcastle.  There are 3 rides to choose from; a 30 miler, 60 miles or 100 miles through the sometimes testing, but always scenic Northumberland around Whalton, Forestburngate, Rothbury, Bellingham and Stamfordham. Stuart B who is 4 weeks away from competing in the Bolton Ironman Triathlon got round the 60 mile course with Ally Mac in 3:52. Bob S and Craig D were also competing. Well done lads. Plenty of compliments about the kit.

Morpeth Duathlon

Nick A, Stu B, Ally M and Ian S took part in the Morpeth Duathlon at the weekend.  Tim M (nearly member) also took part. It was good to see the black and white jerseys scything through the field. The conditions were excellent for this World Championship qualifier. Ian S was beset with problems and has vowed to fight another day but everyone had a good day out. Thanks also for the support along the route. Roll on the summer.

Phil in Hungary

Here's a quick photo of Phil F with some friends in Hungary. Word has it that the northern crew might be coming down to Northumberland over the summer so watch out for them.

South Shields CXNE

Nick A, Allymac, Stu B and newbie Davey R got stuck into the CXNE cyclo-cross event held at South Shields on boxing day. A flat but technical course had been laid out with a number of tight turns. Well attended, the thawing frost provided a slippy, muddy and testing surface for the competitors. Holding off the fancy dress turkey, the lads blasted through the course to finish well down in the rankings... but as always, they looked the most stylish as they carved their way around the course......

CXNE Regional Cyclo Cross

Stuart B. has been competing in the regional cyclo-cross league. The latest (CXNE) event was held in Durham where the regional event on Saturday preceded Sundays National Event. Stuart finished well up and his recent running training in paying dividends. Al MacD. who was taking part in his first event of the season, failed to finish, puncturing toward the end of the event.  Link on the British Cycling site. Children in Need

Congratulations to Ian S who spent 5 hours on the saddle in the foyer of the Morpeth Leisure Centre where he was raising money for Children in Need. Nice one.
